Upcycled Wipes Container

Upcycled Wipes Containers

One of the things I really enjoy to do is to find new uses for junk. You can see my love of that with my light bulb vases and even my DIY apothecary jars.

I was trying to come up with a way to upcycle my old Clorox Wipes containers. They are such great containers but what the heck do I need them for? Then I opened the cabinet under my kitchen sink and was buried by an avalanche of plastic grocery bags. I remembered this tutorial on how to roll up grocery bags. Score!

Upcycled Clorox Wipes Containers Supplies

  • Old Clorox/Lysol Wipes container
  • Pretty scrapbook paper
  • Mod Podge {glossy or matte doesn’t matter}
  • Paper slicer or scissors
  • Paint brush or sponge brush

Cut your paper down to the size of your container. My containers are the bigger ones so I needed a smidge extra. The 12″x12″ scrapbook paper wouldn’t fit all the way around.

Then apply some Mod Podge to the back of your paper and stick it to your container. Once the Mod Podge has dried, apply some more to the scrapbook paper to help give it a good finished look.

Now to your supply of plastic grocery bags? You do have some, right? It’s not just me who keeps these, right? I’m not a hoarder, RIGHT!?! {BTW, for those of you who don’t having hoarding tendencies like me, you can recycle these back at your local grocery stores. They have big bins outside the front door that you can recycle them in.}

Un-bunch your bags and lay them flat. Fold them in half, like you see above. Then, fold the handles to the side with the first bag only.

Place another folded bag with the handles overlapping the bottom of the first bag.

Begin rolling your bags together starting with the top where the handles are folded out. Roll right over the handles of the other bag. Continue to add a bag at a time and keep rolling.

And then stick your big roll of grocery bags into the prettified containers! Feed the handles that are sticking up {there should only be one from the center of the roll… the first bag you rolled} through the top. Now, when you pull a bag from the container, the handles of the next bag should pop up!

These little containers are great to keep in your bathroom {if you use these bags for your bathroom trash}, in the car for trash, or in a beach bag for wet swimsuits. They are fantastic. And you can use them over and over again, recycling your plastic bags as you go!

Any other great upcycled containers you have found? Any you want to share with the class?
