New Year’s Party Blowers

Happy New Year’s Eve to all of you! I hope you are having a great holiday thus far! Do you have any big plans to ring in the new year? We keep New Year’s around here pretty low key. Partially because I like to be in bed shortly after midnight! ;) But I do still enjoy making the evening special! So I made these super simple but awesome New Year’s Party Blowers!

I found the tutorial from Martha Stewart but tweaked the process a bit! Here’s what you need to make these:

  • Decorative Paper
  • Scissors
  • Straws
  • Tape
  • Pencil/Pen
  • Rubber Band
  • White Glue {I was out so I used Mod Podge and it worked great!}

Begin by cutting your straw to 6-inches in length. You can go longer if you want. Then cut a strip of paper so it measures 2-inches by 10-inches for the tongue.

Fold the paper lengthwise, so the edges meet in the center. Then, tape the edges together. Keep in mind that you want tape to cover the entire length so the tongue will become airtight. Fold over 1/4-inch of the tongue at one end. Tape it shut.

Starting with the sealed end, roll the tongue around a pen or pencil {or anything round and thin… I used a paint brush}. Wrap a rubber band around it to keep it coiled. Leave coiled tongue rubber banded for at least 1 hour.

Remove the rubber band and the tongue should remained coiled. Fold the corners in toward the center like shown above.  The space left between folded corners should be the width of the straw.

Dab a little bit of white glue on the inside of the folds and on the white space between folds and insert the straw about a 1/2-inch. Press the tongue opening around the straw, securing it.

Wait about 30 minutes for the glue to dry. Blow gently into the straw to test out your party blower for airtight-ness. If there is a leak… don’t worry! Just put some more tape on the tongue!

That’s it! You’re done! Aren’t they so fun!? I love them! Plus, you can make them in any color combination you want to match a party.

Are you spending your New Year’s Eve quietly at home or are you going to party??
