Apparently it is home update week. Last week I updated you on our front yard tree removal and today I’m going to update you on our living room. I haven’t really kept you up to date on these little changes because it was all so little and I never felt like it warranted a post. But now, there have been enough updates I can smoosh them all together and give you a grand update! So check out the picture below to see those updates!
Note the 4 burnt orange arrows. Those arrows help indicate the four changes to this space… in case you didn’t already figure that out. The rug, basket, stool, and lamp are all new.
As a reminder, this is how our living room looked when I last showed it to you. Not too different, but different enough!
Let’s start with the most obvious, shall we? The rug. I was getting quite annoyed of our couches slipping and sliding all over the room when I flopped down on them. My toes were also getting quite cold. I learned that I am picky when it comes to my rugs. I had been searching for months for the perfect rug with a great pattern and texture, without luck. So I decided to go with a light colored shag rug to help lighten the room and warm my
heart toes. Now imagine me doing a happy dance in the middle of Home Depot when I found an 8×10 rug matching the above description for the amazing price of $147. It is an 8×10 Mohawk Shag rug in Starch. And it is b-e-a-utiful. I am thrilled! It has held up wonderfully for the last 3 months.
On to the basket. I am in serious love with this basket. A little back story: our little town has it’s own Facebook page for residents that is basically an online garage sale. It is a godsend. But for real. I have sold and bought tons of stuff on it. One of my favorite buys? This large basket. I got it for $7!!! This beautiful white washed shabby-chic basket currently holds extra pillows and blankets. I may have to find a way to fix the frayed wood along the top. But other than that… this baby is probably staying exactly as is.
I also found this three-legged stool on my little community Facebook marketplace. And I got it for a steal! Only $10. People are crazy. I have plans to spruce this up with a little fabric and possibly even a little paint. I haven’t quite decided yet.
I know I mentioned the lamp up top. I shared a picture of it on Instagram a while back. Unfortunately, I’m an idiot who didn’t take a picture of it up close in the living room. So go take a look of it on the far left in the below picture. I’ll wait here………… Back? Good. It has this fantastic mint green ombre. I just about died when I saw it. It was a thrift store find… only $5. Again with the happy dance. BTW… I’m not crazy. That beige lampshade is not staying on it. It is just the only lampshade I currently have that fits on it. I’m on the search for the perfect one.
Anywho, I know this picture only really show the bottom 4/5ths of the lamp but you can definitely see the ombre effect. So you can see some of it’s beauty. I also wanted to show you guys this absolutely adorable little bowl I found at Target the other day. I have been on the search for a little bowl to place on this side table to catch all my random trinkets that I take off at the end of the day. It holds my chapstick, bobby pins, and earrings that I remove. Now I can stop searching the floor for miscellaneous items that fell off the table. Win. Price? $2.88 for 2 of the bowls. Yippee! Sometimes being cheap = winning!
So this is how our living room is looking these days. It is comfy and welcoming and I love it. It is still not done, but it is well on it’s way. Here is how this room’s progress is looking:
New couches New Rug DIY’ed media stand Curtains New table lamp
- New flooring
- Wood blinds for front window and small side windows
- Replace ceiling fan
- New floor lamp
- DIY artwork for the walls (think pallets and gold leaf…)
- Recovered throw pillows
- New ottoman/coffee table? Possibly DIY’ed?
- Mount the TV
Of course, other things can jump on the list as I find more things that I like.
And that was a great seg-way to this beautiful piece! This antique rocker is my most recent purchase from the FB marketplace for the price of $15. I KNOW!? Can you believe it!? It currently sits next to the basket facing the couches. The only problem is that I can’t figure out exactly what to do with it. Any ideas? I will be back later this week to have you guys help me with that even more. Mmkay?
There you have it, our living room update. Not tons of big changes, but enough that it is feeling more and more like our style with each item I bring in.
