Knotted T-Shirt Headband

Knotted T-Shirt Headband

Once upon a time there was me. And I chopped off 8-inches of my hair and then it never stayed in a ponytail and always fell in my face. And it drove me crazy. Most of you would tell me to pin it back or use a headband. Except there was so much hair falling in my face I would have to create a lovely bobby pin crown to pin it all back and because all of my old headbands were so stretched out that I would have to fix it on my head every 5 minutes so it wouldn’t fall off. That is almost more annoying than hair falling in my face! And since I’m cheap and didn’t want to go buy a headband, I decided to make an adorable Knotted T-Shirt Headband!!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram {you really should! I’m super nice!} saw this picture several weeks ago right after I cut my hair. Like I said, I cut off 8-inches. I love my new shorter “do” but it is not really conducive to my go-to slacker ponytail. So adorable headbands were made to stop me from going INSANE!

Enjoy this little pictorial! Pictures are WAY better than explaining for this project!

Supplies:

  • An old T-shirt or jersey material
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread

It is super easy to make t-shirt yarn! For those of you wondering how… here you go!

**Note: if using an actual t-shirt, you can also cut 3 18-inch long strips instead of folding 1 long piece into thirds!

Cut a little piece of T-shirt measuring 3×3-inches. Fold it so it is 1.5-inches by 3 inches. Then do as pictures say.

Okay, okay. My whip stitching of the extra piece is ugly. Ignore that. Do a prettier job. I was in a rush. And if you really don’t want to sew… you could just as easily hot glue the ends together and then hot glue the piece around the ends.

Voila! An adorable knotted t-shirt headband! This should fit perfectly around your head! If it doesn’t, then apparently my head is big or something. You can make sure it is the right size before you stitch the ends together by wrapping it around your head.

Aren’t they fun and cute!? And since I had all the supplies on hand, totally free! Hair falling insanity BE GONE! I was going to take a picture of me wearing it but, go figure, it is really  hard to take a good picture of the top of your head by yourself. Pshh.

What is your go-to hairstyle? Anything cuter than my boring old ponytail? Any tips for a newly short-haired girl!?
