Homemade Cheese Crackers
I’ve told you all how I have a love affair with cheese. I love cheese. In fact, I’m working on a cookbook called “Double the Cheese” {not really.. I just really love cheese}. And Cheez-Its and goldfish are definitely some of my favorite salty snacks just for the fact that they are cheesy. In fact, I have very early memories of my father snacking on Cheez-Its and sneaking me some while my mom wasn’t looking. I love those delicious cheesy crackers! Then I found this amazing recipe showing me how to make my own homemade cheese crackers! Yippee!
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup flour
- 3 tbsp water
- Mix butter, salt and cheese in a mixer until combined. Add in flour and mix until combined {it will be really pebbly and crumbly}.
- Slowly add water, 1 tbsp at a time. Allow at least 1 minute of mixing between each tbsp added. {Give the dough a few minutes to form up. If it still isn't forming a ball, add 1 tbsp more of water until it does.} Form dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Divide dough into 2 portions. Roll dough out on cookie sheet until it is at ⅛-inch thickness. Using a sharp knife, cut dough into 1-inch squares. Using a toothpick, poke a hole in the center of each square.
- Bake for 13-17 minutes or until puffy and golden. Rotate pans ½ way through. Allow crackers to cool on tray. Then store in airtight container.

These are so delicious and fluffy but also crispy! My hubby nearly made himself sick snacking on these because they are so addicting!
I was surprised at how similarly these tasted to real Cheez-Its. Of course, they don’t tasteΒ exactlyΒ the same. It is probably because they don’t have that “factory made” taste but instead have that “baked in the oven” flavor. π These were so good and so simple to make!
