HELP! Rocking Chair Makeover Poll

You know when you find an amazing piece of furniture and you do a happy dance and you can imagine all the wonderful things you could do with it? And then you get it home and you are at a complete loss as to which way to go with your little furniture makeover?

Bentwood Chair Makeover

That is my current predicament.

On Monday I shared an update on our living room and I showed you my most recent thrifty find… an amazingly beautiful bentwood rocking chair. I’m seriously in love with it. But not as it currently is.

Bentwood Chair Before

Isn’t she beautiful?? Those curvy legs? That exposed wood. Yowza! If I didn’t take her home that first night I would have asked for her phone number. She is in fantastic condition and I got her for a steal at $15. Buuuttt I’m not the biggest fan of the fabric. Sure, vintage fabric can be wonderful but this fabric just wasn’t my style.

After seeing this, I was dreaming of painting my beauty. But there are so many options! Do I go bold and bright? Just change out the fabric? Embrace the wood? AHHHH! SO MANY OPTIONS! So I’m turning to my trusty sidekick photoshop and to all of you! I’ve whipped up some possible makeover options for you to peruse and tell me which one you like best! So let’s get this party started!

Living Room Updates

So you have a sense of context, this is how our living room currently looks. The rocking chair has been and will continue to sit on the right side of this picture next to the basket. Ignore the blue ottoman. I’m looking to replace it.

Vintage Gold Bentwood Chair Makeover

First up we have the look that I have deemed “Vintage Gold”. This fabric is beautiful and seems to keep with the antique-i-ness of the chair. Plus the gold will tie in with the gold on the Flip Down Media Stand.

Simple Glitz Bentwood Chair Makeover

Okay. I know this one is a little bold… but also oddly simplistic. But I have serious lust for the color gold. Imagine the wood painted a beautiful, metallic gold. Not shiny gold, but metallic gold. The back and seat would be re-upholstered with a pale gray linen fabric.

Rich Navy Bentwood Chair Makeover

Welcome to number one of my two favorite options. The wood would stay as is, except with the tiny nicks touched up. But it would be paired with this beautiful organic navy and white fabric. The bold pattern helps balance out the boldness of the rocker’s shape. I have a big crush on this option.

Modern Glam Bentwood Chair Makeover

This is my other favorite option. It is similar to “Simple Glitz” but with a little bit more modernism. Again with the gold. But this time I’m bringing in the contrast with a dark charcoal linen fabric. This option makes this chair a big statement piece… which I love.

Bold Navy Bentwood Chair Makeover

This one is absolutely out there for me. It would be painted deep navy and paired with a plain and simple neutral print. It’s okay but WAY out of my comfort zone.

Bentwood Chair Makeover

OKAY! Now it is time for you guys to help me! I want to hear which one is your favorite! Refer to the collage picture above for which name goes with which option. If you don’t like any of them but have a better option, choose other and give me your idea. Ready? GO!

Note: Regardless of most chosen option, I have final say. But, I will, most certainly, take your all of your amazing opinions into account!

Thank you so much, in advance,  for all of your help!

  1. Hey Talitha- FYI If you paint the rocker you could have potential problems with tracks being left on your hard wood floor. best not to paint the bottoms of the runners. Don’t ask me how I know this one!

  2. The vintage gold fabric, I think, would look best with your dark colored couches. It would give the room that extra pop.

  3. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the rich navy option. HANDS DOWN…that wood is soooo beautiful, it calls to me!! And the navy just looks so dashing with it. I know you have final say…but I might cry if you paint that wood… 😉

  4. I love it!!!!! My mom had one like this with the cane seat & back that she rocked me in as a baby. When I had my first born she passed it to me & I rocked all my babies in it. I was so sad when it broke. Seeing yours makes me smile.
