Dresser Turned Media Stand

Ok people. These are the types of projects I have been dying to do! Long before I had this little ole blog I was dying to makeover some furniture. I’ve been dying to sand and paint to my little heart’s content. But living in an apartment made that really hard. So now that we have a house, I am in project heaven! My first big furniture makeover was a Dresser Turned Media Center! Warning! This is a picture heavy post.

I have been wanting to replace our old TV stand for quite some time. The old one was fine. Good quality but really really low to the ground. Whenever friends with kids would come over, our TV would end up with fingerprints all over it. Not ideal.  You can also see that kids also had great access to the blu-ray player and wii. Again, not something you want a 2-year-old getting into. Plus, if I had my choice, I wanted something with more storage. So I was on the lookout for a great dresser that I could turn into a media stand.

Then I found this little gem at a local thrift store. I bought it on the spot. Don’t you just love her curves!?

I took off the drawer pulls {I considered salvaging them but then found out that 1 pull was missing} and filled in the holes with wood filler. I had to do it twice because the holes were so big. Then I gave the whole dresser a light sanding, making sure to sand down the holes nice and smooth.

Then I primed and painted it. It only took 2 coats of paint to cover the whole thing. FYI, that gorgeous minty green color is Behr’s Pastel Jade. I’m currently in big mushy love with it!

And since everyone loves a good before and after, here ya go! Big difference, right? I added those pops of gold back on with some gold acrylic paint and some fantastic pulls. And I finished off with 2 coats of polycrylic. Let’s look at a few details, shall we??

I bought a few of these fantastic pulls and screwed them on. The lower 4 drawers are being used to hold all of our movies. So I whipped up a few labels to help identify which movies are where.

You ready for a fantastic little surprise? I’m so in love with this next part. See that drawer that is labeled “media”? Check this out…

SHE-BAM! I went all kinds of fancy and figured out a way make the drawer flip down to reveal the blu-ray player and Wii. That way, when we want to watch something, we flip the drawer front down and have access to use the remote! Yippee! And when we are done and want to hide everything, we just flip the front back up! Click over here to find out how I made a flip down media drawer from a regular dresser drawer!

Seriously though. I love this. I feel so good that I figured out a way to make it work! So make sure to come back next week and I’ll explain how to make the flip down drawer front!

Do you love to make over furniture? What does your TV stand look like?
