Confessions of a Bargain Hunter: Pillow Edition

Confessions of a Bargain Hunter: Where to Find Cheap Pillows

AKA: Where to find super cheap pillow forms.

I’m not ashamed to say that I’m crazy frugal. In fact, I’m quite proud of it. I don’t like to spend money. Scratch that. I don’t like to spend more money than I have to. I refuse to pay $40 for something I can get for $5 somewhere else. My hubby jokes that most men have problems with their wives spending too much money. But not him. I am always on the hunt for a great bargain. I stalk thrift stores, search garage sales, and scour clearance aisles. Just call me the Bargain Hunter! Da-dun! I’m like the Crocodile Hunter… minus the awful stingray accident. Just imagine me spotting a deal in it’s natural habitat…….. nevermind.

Just because I’m not willing to compromise on price does not mean I am willing to compromise on quality. Pillows are no exception to my frugality. I luuurrve pillows. But I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to get them. The average cotton pillow form costs about $15 and the average down pillow form costs $40. No thanks. So I’m going to give  you my little secret of where to get high quality pillow forms for super cheap!

Ampersand Throw Pillow

Ampersand Throw Pillow

You know when you are working on a project and you have a vision of what you want? But then you just can’t find it anywhere?? That is the story of me and my newest throw pillow. I have wanted a cute little gray and yellow pillow to go with our new bedding and master bedroom revamp that either had an ampersand or a silhouette of a cute little animal. But, I couldn’t find one anywhere for a reasonable price. What’s a crafty girl to do!? DIY it, of course! So, I pulled out my crafting supplies and I made my very own DIY Ampersand Throw Pillow!

I’ve been planning on making this for several weeks now. But time just slipped away from me! In fact, I’m pretty much ready to make the switch to our new bedding but I’m being slow on making our throw pillows. This glorious weather is making me a slacker. Does anyone else get that way when the weather is gorgeous??

Little Decor Changes

With spring approaching I’m really feeling the desire to clean and craft like crazy! I’ve got about 15 projects going all at once but I have yet to finish any of them! So… I decided to share a little bit of the progress I have made. I’ve been tackling a few little decor changes I’ve been wanting to get done. You know, those little things that you always say you want to do but rarely find time to do?? I’m not the only one with that problem, am I?

Little Decor Changes

First up was some of the little throw pillows on our couch. The no-sew throw pillow covers I first made held up really well but I was a novice when made them {not that I’m all professional now! HA! Anything but…}. Why didn’t I think that I may want to remove the covers at some point to clean them?! These pillows get a lot of love and use and needed to be changed out! So I whipped up a new cover and attached an adorable little red felt heart onto it! A quick little envelope closure and I was set to go!

Homemade Hand Warmers

I am a naturally cold person. My hubby complains year round that I am ice cold. Whenever we sit to watch a movie, I always snuggle up with a blanket… even if it is 110 degrees outside. And worst of all, my hands are always icicles. Now that the weather is getting more fall-like, I am even more prone to chilly hands. So when I saw these adorable little homemade hand warmers over on The Scrap Shoppe, I knew that I would be making them.

Even if you aren’t a naturally cold person there is always Christmas to think about! And I don’t know if all of you are aware of this, but it is 71 days until Christmas. It really is! I counted. You could easily make a couple of these for some of your cold-blooded friends or family!
