Linen Closet Mini-Makeover

It’s January. It’s the month when people have made resolutions for the new year and are trying hard to stick with them. I don’t really do resolutions anymore (because I inevitably break them on January 3rd) but I do try to set goals for myself. And let’s be honest, I feel way less bad when I don’t accomplish a goal than when I break a resolution. It’s all in the wording, people. And like a lot of people, one of my goals is to be more organized.

Linen Closet Mini-Makeover

I realize that 99% of people who know me in real life are going to laugh at that goal. I am crazy organized. Clutter and disorganization drives me nuts. But even I have a few Monica’s secret closet spots. Sure, they aren’t that bad, but they are definitely more clutter than function. So when Rubbermaid and Home Depot asked me to check out their new All Access storage line, I was all about organizing and giving a mini-makeover to one of my least functional spaces, the linen closet.

Pantry Mini-Makeover + $100 Gift Card Giveaway

Pantry Mini-Makeover

Do you guys realize how quickly the holidays are coming up!? Wasn’t it just October yesterday?? Where is the time going? SLOW DOWN! I don’t know about you, but I do a lot of cooking/baking around the holidays. Not just for the holidays themselves, but also for all the friend/family get-togethers and parties. ‘Tis the season, I guess. And with all of the time I spend in the kitchen this time of year, I always begin to notice some of my kitchen’s shortcomings. One of the biggest areas I’m noticing right now? My pantry. It isn’t nearly as organized as I would like and it makes finding things a little difficult. So when Avery contacted me asking me to use their labels, I instantly knew I was going to do a pantry mini-makeover.

Pantry Mini-Makeover

My pantry started out like this. Not terrible, but not great. The cans are stacked high and often topple over when I go to remove one. Can we say annoying?? It definitely isn’t conducive to retrieving items quickly while in the midst of baking (p.s. It makes me feel all smart and schmancy when I use the phrase “in the midst…”… until I realize that I just used the word “schmancy”). When we moved in, the pantry had 5 shelves, but the bottom shelf had to be removed in order to fit some of my taller kitchen gadgets.

DIY Magnetic Spice Tins

Happy April Fool’s!! I tried to come up with a prank to play on you guys but I’m not very original. And it is hard to virtually switch out someone’s sugar for salt or jump out and scare them. Did you guys have a good Easter? We had a wonderful church service and then got to relax at home.

DIY Magnetic Spice Tins

I’ve been a very very busy bee recently! There has been tons of big stuff going on around here that I can’t wait to tell you about… but it has all kept me insanely busy. Seriously. It has been crazy. All this busy-ness is leading to the desire and need to clean and organize and purge. Yes. Cleaning is my catharsis. One of the first things I tackled in my cleanization-palooza {why yes, I did just make that up…} was my spices. You see, our apartment has an itty-bitty kitchen. No seriously. I have a total of 5 cabinets and 5 drawers. And a grand total of about 3 feet of counter space. So counter and cabinet space is valuable real estate. I hated my spice rack taking up so much of that space, so I decided to get my spices off the counter by making my very own DIY Magnetic Spice Tins.

Homemade Baker’s Twine

Homemade Baker's Twine

Oh yes! You read that title right! Maybe I’ve gone a step too far in my DIY-ness. Maybe I’ve lost my mind. Maybe I should have just spend the money and bought some baker’s twine. But, in my defense, baker’s twine doesn’t always come in exactly the color my little heart desires. And sometimes I don’t want to spend money but I want the adorableness. So instead… I ventured into the realms of insanity and made some Homemade Baker’s Twine!

Upcycled Wipes Container

Upcycled Wipes Container

One of the things I really enjoy to do is to find new uses for junk. You can see my love of that with my light bulb vases and even my DIY apothecary jars.

Upcycled Wipes Container

I was trying to come up with a way to upcycle my old Clorox Wipes containers. They are such great containers but what the heck do I need them for? Then I opened the cabinet under my kitchen sink and was buried by an avalanche of plastic grocery bags. I remembered this tutorial on how to roll up grocery bags. Score!
